How to cement bed (screed) a bathroom floor

Updated: Aug 13, 2023

In this video, I try my best to explain how to cement bed (screed) a bathroom, I also show a little demo how to slurry and mention the sand and cement ratio. I hope this video helps people.

Cement bedding in bathrooms is an essential step in ensuring proper drainage and stability for your tiles. By creating falls toward the drain, you prevent water from pooling and causing potential damage. The standard mix ratio of 4 parts sand to 1 part cement provides a durable and strong foundation for your bathroom floor.

Moreover, waterproofing on top of the cement bedding adds an extra layer of protection against water infiltration. This waterproofing membrane acts as a barrier, preventing any moisture from seeping into the cement or underlying structure. By doing so, it helps to prolong the lifespan of your bathroom floor, reducing the risk of mold, mildew, and water damage.

Once the waterproofing has been applied, the tiles can be directly adhered to the membrane using appropriate tile adhesives. This method not only ensures a secure bond between the tiles and substrate but also simplifies the installation process.

In summary, incorporating cement bedding, waterproofing, and direct tile sticking in your bathroom project promotes proper drainage, enhances durability, and safeguards against potential water-related issues.
