In this video, I demonstrate how waterproofing membrane should properly bond to a wall and what a strong adhesion result should look like when the preparation process is done correctly. A lot of waterproofing failures are not always caused by the membrane itself. In many cases, the problem starts with poor surface preparation before the membrane is even applied.

To achieve the best possible bond between the wall and the waterproofing membrane, the surface must be prepared correctly from the beginning. The first step is making sure the wall is clean and free from dust, dirt, loose particles, and any contamination that could interfere with adhesion. Even a small amount of dust left on the surface can reduce how well the membrane grips onto the wall.

The next important step is using a quality primer that is compatible with the waterproofing membrane being applied. Not all primers and membranes work the same way together, which is why compatibility is important. A suitable primer helps create a stronger connection between the wall surface and the waterproofing system, improving adhesion and helping the membrane perform as intended.

Once the wall has been cleaned and the correct primer has been applied, the waterproofing membrane can then be installed. Following these three basic steps can help achieve the best possible outcome:

• Clean the wall thoroughly

• Use a quality primer compatible with the waterproofing membrane

• Apply the waterproofing membrane correctly

These are simple steps, but they play a major role in achieving a strong bond and reducing the risk of future issues. Skipping preparation stages or rushing the process can increase the chance of the waterproofing membrane losing adhesion, peeling away from the substrate, or failing over time.

The purpose of this video is to show the strength of a properly bonded waterproofing membrane and to highlight how important preparation is before installation. Good preparation creates the foundation for a successful waterproofing system.
