Grouting Mitre Joints Twice Ensure They Are Full As Possible

In this blog post, I explain my step-by-step process for grouting mitred joints in a bathroom. To start, I apply a quick initial fill in the joint—this acts as a backing. After that, I grout the joint quickly, just enough to get some grout in place. I then follow up with a second application. This second layer is key, because the first fill absorbs some moisture, helping the joint set more firmly. Once it’s dry, I scrape away any excess grout, smoothing the sides, and I finish by using very fine sandpaper to refine the surface. I also pull off the masking tape at this stage. While it’s not always essential to tape the edges, I find it’s a good habit, especially when I want crisp, clean lines. This method gives me consistent, polished results every time.
